Is it possible to get a name change done?

Here, I posted this over on SomethingAwful, but didnt get much in the way of replies, was wondering if you lot might help? Their wee thread is somewhat wrapped up in this Jita thing at the minute, so it was kinda lost in the noise.


So, imagine you're a complete sperg right...and 6 years ago you made a character with the name of "Twilight Moon", not expecting some uppity American author to ruin that name for you 3 years later (not that it was a great name anyway, shit I suck at names). And now, out of sheer curiosity you want to try EVE again, and use your original character.

That sperg is me chaps. How do I go about begging/bullying CCP customer support to giving me a name change? They're being remarkably stubborn about the whole affair. Has anyone here got a name changed successfully in the past?

I don't much fancy doing that first year of skill training again. It was rather crap, although possibly there's some shiny new things to speed it up these days, I don't know, last played in 2008 sometime, apart from one month in 2010 where I was mercilessly ridiculed in every system. :/

Yeah, only names against the naming policy can get renamed, and then again if CCP rules that your name is a blatantly against the TOS they can just delete the whole character...

Many people making characters to be sold seem to use names that are offensive in some esoteric languages so that the buyer can petition for a name change.

Some guy in Genos (kimomura or something) managed to change name. He biomassed himselfn created a noob with same name then petitioned for unbiomass. Not for the faint hearted.

I wonder if Garmon did the same with el'tar or if he really threw away that many SPs.

They used to do it if you could find a GM who didn't know the policy, I asked for it to be done (name starting with an A sucks) and linked them someone who they had done it for previously, they replied saying they had performed an internal investigation and as a result strengthened the policy.

You aren't going to get it changed, but I for one don't see a problem with the name. You obviously have no idea how easy its going to make it to scam all the bronies when they find out you have had the name for 6 years, so you were pre-fad.. Also selling the character after you are done scamming will be easy.

Mate apparently ragequitted and biomassed his main a while ago and then successfully petitioned to undo it claiming that he was completely drunk when he did that. :V

As I am pretty sure I know who Zergl is referring to, he ragequit when monoclegate dropped. He raged on Skype etc., gave his stuff to some dude, biomassed all of his chars, several accounts etc. He was mad at CCP for being so shit. And he was planning it for a bit and also drunk.

if that name is indeed a copyrighted one (book/movie/whatever) and if you can do some social/legal bullshit, you can probably make them change your name.
you can start by example by complaining that you uploaded on youtube some videos showing how great eve was, but youtube deleted them because of a copyright notice.
and you really want to show the world how great eve is, but you canot.

this have a slighty chance to work, if you start with it, it will not work after an unsuccesfull petition. even a stupid gm should ask why you dint say that in the first place.

Same, everyone I know who's biomassed and then wanted to resub has been able to get their original character back, for obvious reasons; CCP want your money. That's not the issue. The issue is whether GMs will still give you the character back if you biomass, then (get someone else to) create a new character with the same name as the biomassed one, then petition to have the biomassed one restored - since there would then be a character with the old name on the database, they'd have to let you pick a new one if they were to resurrect the character.

Even if it worked once, I suspect they'd kill it off the instant it started becoming at all widespread.

solution about someone else (or you) reclaiming your biomassed name (and end with that shit loophole) : lock the biomassed char name for 15-30 days to the account who belong that biomassed char.

you delete your char : you can make another char with the same name on the same acount only.
noone else from another accounts can make it for xx days.

if you petition for name change for you biomassed char, gm will just laught at you. much simpler system, less hour spent on crap and loopholes petitions, with random ending. amarr citizen ftw.

or they can charge a fixed ammount of $ for every char sales if you want them to include a name change service with the caracter sell. (of course visible on the char sheet). but only for a char sell. (personally i'm not happy with that, but wth. some people would like it.)

I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be considered a name change, just correcting capitalization.. (ie, the game seems 'thisguy' the same as 'ThisGuy' so its the same name, except for how it is displayed)
