Training straight for an Osprey
if you're serious about getting into armour incursions i'd recommend you train for a guardian. you'll need good support skills too. that's a minimum of couple of months pretty focussed, implanted, properly spec'd training unfortunately, but logistics is way more fun than it sounds and the hulls are cheaper than fitting a pimped out legion or whatevs.

once you've got a guardian sorted do some public highsec incursions. most run ship replacement programs providing you don't fuck up too badly. a week or so of that and you'll have a manly chunk of isk, will be able to fly a very useful ship and will have seen what incursions are all about.

give us a call then, expect to be trolled and be prepared to come pvp (the incursions isk is after all just a means to an end).

Why? If you have 2 lvl 5 Guardians, they can fuel the Oneiros on the side, and you can use all the Oneiros' mids for tracking links while not losing any tank power.

Right, now the shakes have subsided (Holy fuck am I out of practise. I couldn't sit still for a good 10 mins after the fight), battle report!

Earlier in the night we'd basically been blue-balled by a 600 man alliance who'd had the nerve to fail-cascade instead of fight us, so when a new incursion spawned up in genesis we packed up our shit and jumped up there. Kicked about a bit just knocking over NCOs and the like, Lark getting steadily drunk all the while. We jump into Alsavoinon, and there's 5 cruiser sized things and a tempest just sitting 300km off and a pile of wrecks on the gate. Well, we have no probes so fuck trying to engage them, let's do an NCO decides lark! Only were we're warping to, it's plain as day to the lovable gang who have a lot more in local, so as we land, hit the game and start the site I'm sitting on my d-scanner just waiting. Sure enough, I pick up a tempest within 100k km, then 2 logi, then some BCs and so it goes.

They warp into us with 6-8~ in a mixed fleet and we shift straight into combat mode. Stamy in a tempest is initally called primary (Mostly because he was the first idiot on the grid), but their logi save him at about 1/2 structure. Somewhere around here Lark get's jammed, ECM drones, rats in the site, I don't know, but he's asking on coms for someone to take over with targets, and I dunno, something inside just went right then *cracks fingers* XXX IS PRIMARY, YYY IN THE SCIMITAR IS SECONDARY. OK SWITCH, YYY IN THE SCIMITAR IS PRIMARY. Somewhere around here we lose Ralara, and with the logi moaning on coms about cap chains going down and being jammed, I'm honestly thinking oh fuck, we're really really dead here. Better take what we can.

And then a scimitar drops. and another, And now we're working over their fleet and all the while I'm waiting to be called primary and find myself one of the few left standing. We're still getting logi reporting cap problems though, so that kind of snaps my atttention to the tempest with those utility highs and we work though those while just melting more logis as they come in late. Next thing I knew, we're spreading points and getting the last few who haven't warped out, and despite sustain cap problems somehow the logi have kept us all going. Ralara was our one loss in the face of a 20+ fleet who's fight it was to win. By right we should have died horribly. They had more numbers, superior logistical numbers and the drop on us. How we didn't die horribly, I have no fucking idea, but holy shit am I glad I was in that fight.

Sorry, that was a rabbling mess of description, but that's the only way I can describe it.

Armor doesn't sacrifice significant damage vs a shield fleet (Well, unless your a complete tool and over-tank your ship to fuck like 90% of idiots who have to have 900 million ehp for vanguards -.-). What it does do it let you use all those mids for webs and scrams.

If you're trying to speed run them, they're a bit ass due to slowness... depends on what ones you're doing, too. If you get loads of OTAs they're nice. For NMCs and NCOs they're not great.

You don't really need 90% webs in legion fleets.I don't think that was me in BS fleets, as per the EVE-O thread I've not really done that PvE before, which is why I'm banging on about hard numbers for not just blowing up a new shiny toy in my first pubby OTA.

As for legions, I've a habit of actually using my AB and as long as I've not got aggro and would distort the rat's orbits, I'll burn around to get into web range of most things, so I'll be buzzing about for all the spawns and still in range asap for the 3rd 70km one (just like C3 blitzing days). Being that the Vindi looks to be capable of being fitted to be comparably fast & agile, I had similar plans especially as the range is reduced. I get the easy piloting/FCing merits of all sitting in a tight ball and having the rats do the flying into range, but wouldn't a moving T3 fleet be better? Legion tracking is ridiculous at 20-35km, and within there's the ganglinked webs, it doesn't seem a bad habit.

Legion fleets naturally tend to favour NCOs, but NCOs are almost a different style site, there's never a need to really move or have optimal mods it seems. But also being that many more ship's webs will be in range to help tracking anyway, why not fit an AB to a Vindi to also scoot around the NMCs and help tank OTAs? Unless that missile spam is cruiser-equiv and won't be phased by a slim BS going a handful of 100km/s? IDK how I could even test that myself without a pair of logis and a rep target and I don't have 3 accounts to box on Sisi.

I guess my main concept is that the point of the 90% web is to ensure you're doing that ~1200dps up close, and thus worth 1-2 legions to the fleet. It's not that legions need it, it's that more dps from the same gang size makes things faster and wins contests. Being as you can't depend on doing purely NCOs, I see the AB as worth a midslot, I think too many people have plated their BSs and then given up on trying to move the fat things rather than ensure skirmish links are around. I just can't test/prove this without a fat isk outlay, and this is mostly for isk-earning in the first place. :roll:

I used to burn around and apply the 18km web a lot in random gangs in my legion, in blitz fleets however the FCs are not ok with it in pure legion setups, since anything can be tracked rather well and keeping the gang together to get anything in multi/conflagration range as quick a possible really speeds things up. If you don't drop ore, ABs are a wasted slot in this gangs(at least in high sec).

As for OTAs legion gangs are not much slower than BS gangs, since they basically only kill a few Augas and 2 Deltoles here(3 Deltoles is worst case). The problem is not so much tank but making the best out of the limited 5-6k dps you have, sticking with the necessary stuff and being able ignore the rest by the rather good resists/sig tanks. As for tanks you might trust my impression since I mostly fly logi here, not because my legion wouldn't kick ass but because FCs like me in a logi.

Given that you only need like 50% longer for OTAs than a real OTA blitz fleet(that doesn't includes vindis because NM/Golem >>> Vindi for this) doesn't make it this bad.

As you posted, the rest of the legions don't need the 90% web to apply her DPS, it is just BS sized damage dealers and before it really kicks in any sub Cruiser target is dead/it won't matter for cruisers+. From a practical approach, moving or not, in a bs gang you apply heavy tackle to really make the extra dps count during focus fire or you just end up with situations where you lose out dps.
