There was talk in the stream of an arms race, with humans being on the back foot initially. There should be some fun new toys to play with once things get going, but we're going to get our arses kicked to begin with.

Very curious to see how it all plays out. This is a huge change to what has been a pretty static galaxy & game. Current speculation is that they will claim the Pleiades region but in reality, no one has a fucking clue. We do know there will be a new ship at some point - the Type 10 Defender - but we don't know if it'll be in at release or whether it'll appear later.

If they can deliver something that doesn't involve endless repetitive grinding then it will be a hugely positive change to ED.

Well, they're here. Discoveries occurring fast.

Visit Maia (dock at Obsidian Orbital to update your respawn location before doing any of this shit). If you get hyperdicted on the way, do not fuck with them. Hardpoints stowed, keep a respectful distance. Save yourself having to make a second trip and leave the shenanigans until after you've docked at Obsidian Orbital. Take a fast ship that you can afford to lose.

Once there, dock and exit. Jump around in the Pleiades sector (took me one jump from Maia) and look for USS. Find one labeled 'Non-Human Signal: Threat 5' and drop in to meet the Thargies.

If you deploy hardpoints or approach too close, it will turn hostile. You can outrun the attacks if you have a fast ship and boost like hell; if you don't you will get spanked. You can dodge for quite a while though, but they appear to be unkillable, at least for now. You can use the new 'research limpets' on them apparently, you get some kind of sample that might become useful in future but has no use right now. They don't like Guardian artifacts, but they do like UAs (which are now called 'Thargoi Sensors' iirc).

No activity reported at any of the big sites yet.

There are also new barnacle sites. Much bigger, oozing green stuffs. Literal forests of barnacles, but now attended by the small thargoid scavengers seen at the big thargoid sites.

Loaded game for first time in many moons. Got wibbled at by thargoid. Quit game. 9/7 would Thargoid again.

So apparently Horizons owners will get another year of updates, in other words no new "Season" behind which updates will be locked. Thats pretty good considering what Frontier has announced for 2018.

This video mentions some of the highlights and oh boy planet porn :companioncube:

So many hours in that game... even now the combat music is burned into my memory.

Nice that Horizons owners basically get Beyond for free. And that planet tech looks awesome.

Thargoid speculation continues. Not much in the way of new sightings but an old INRA site has been discovered, complete with Mycoid virus tanks. Indications are that more sites are out there to be found. Of note in one of the reveal videos from the weekend was a ship seemingly evacuating a station under attack, complete with red warning lights. Hopes are high that this will actually happen - defending a station against Thargoids would be cool as fuck.

New AX multicannons are also available. So far all the anti-thargoid weapons have been fixed or turreted... apparently engineers forgot how to gimballed.
