CCP spent way too little time on Project Nova, but it seems obvious the game is still in the early phases.

They have started from scratch and created a demo reusing assets from Dust 514 while scraping several aspects of the game that didn't work well.

Free to play on PC
Moving away from planets and into space
Will show off New Eden (ships, stations, asteroids)
Scaling back MMO ambitions

More clips from Fanfest. Did they add that Minmatar sniper rifle to PS3 or is it new?

OK, so they can create an Unreal game.

Wheres the inventive to choose it over all the others?

Presumably you'll be able to fight on eve spacestations / outposts.

It was the EvE integration that made Dust so appealing as an idea. Fight for station control, fight for planetary control and in turn affect factional warfare indexes. Board a Titan and disable its weapons. These are the things that set it apart. Unfortunately, only a small portion of those dreams have actually translated into reality, but it was quite cool from my pov.

It's what I actually dreamed of Valkyrie to be. Imagine playing a carrier pilot in EvE and deploying wings of player controlled fighters.

But I suppose servers would melt and CCP isn't a large enough company to actually make this come true.

In the stream them mentioned that you'd start out being able to choose any role, without even having to choose a race - but then as you progressed you could specialise into weapons, gear, equipment.

Why would that be good? If I was in a carrier I'd want my dps to be applied fairly consistently, not rely on a bunch of people in my fighters to not be completely retarded. I struggle to find more than a couple of non retarded team mates in pretty much every game I play. I consider myself lucky if 50% are good. Apply that to a flight of fighters and I wouldn't bother even undocking a carrier.

Nope. I don't think the progression system will even be compatible. CCP did say they would have loyalty rewards at least.

I am kinda meh on this. Yay for PC, but I liked the planet aspect of Dust. I could see planets mattering more through Dust. I don't really know how Nova will make the "This matters" part of Eve come to life.

People who say this game has no place anywhere are dumb.

There's a shitload of F2P shooters out there and I'm pretty sure they're all making money just a few I know out of my head: Blacklight retribution, Dirty Bomb, Alliance of valiant arms ....

If CCP does it properly and puts it on steam and everything I'm sure it'll bring them money and that's all they (we?) care about

i don't mind the new "nova-dust" product has lost the link with eve, however like Aliventi said, Dust put planets in the forefront of conflict, something we just see from orbit, if the fights were to capture or defend PI installations, actual cities, or whatever, it would have been great...but space? i don't know...maybe some deadspace shantitown works....but still planets were far more interesting.

There's no reason why Nova won't gradually include elements that touch the EVE universe, it's just that the orbital bombardments and such were more of a gimmick than a naturally evolved feature.

Once they got the gameplay established there's no reason that invading cap ships and such couldn't influence FW balance, or mid-reinforced citadel vulnerability, moon mining efficiency, PI, etc.

Just let them make a proper game first. The code to do cross-game events is still there. Hell, even GunJack could be made to have some 'influence' on the universe.

The second thing is that people are perceiving the loadouts that they start with to be the definitive loadouts. They’re there to help you start the game, and afterwards we’re definitely aiming freedom that you have in DUST 514.

YES!!!

And that might suggest they're also keeping 'eve/dust-style skills' in the background, available to be tweaked by advanced players, but also skilled automagically depending on what gameplay style retards want to follow. I'm guessing Valkyrie shares that.

Basically complexity if you want, but easy and automatic if you just don't care.

everything in that article sounds good, overall...still i don't have much faith.

the only lacking feature is PvE, dusties or clone soldiers are to regular soldiers what capsuleers are to ship captains. So you can do a 2vsNPC or 3vsNPC mercenary job, killing down criminals, earn a few isks. Even maybe explore infested rogue drone stations and harvest alloys (remember those?).

Then that isk/alloys can be used on stuff that is consumable. Armor layering, special types of ammo, whatever...

there is sooo much potential on a eve-inspired FPS but CCP need to exploit their own universe right....not sure they have the vision to do so.

Right now, Project Nova has absolutely no plans to communicate directly with EVE Online.

As it exists, Project Nova is adequate, but it’s also another chapter in CCP’s growing history of tossing experiments at the wall and seeing what sticks. If you’re like me and you immediately perked up at the first mention of what Project Nova could be, you can safely settle back into your chair.

All of CCP Shanghai. I tried looking (not very hard) to see how big it was but didn't find anything.

All of CCP Shanghai.

OK, but Shanghai, left to its own devices, ended up releasing a pretty ordinary game.

I'm more interested in the people setting the direction. I mean, just take a look at gameplay videos of Nova vs say, Titanfall and think about the chasm that CCP has to traverse.

Well hopefully they're right about the niche they've chosen to focus on: realistic sci-fi. And also that they can deliver it.

What’s the unique twist that will make Nova more than every other shooter?

That’s where we are refining the message both at Fanfest and during development. To me — and this may be controversial — I really just want to make a great shooter as I’ve been lacking a great shooter for a long time that I want to play in this setting. For me, the current marketplace doesn’t have a realistic sci-fi FPS that I want to play, and I think that there are people like me who would want that offering. So it’s a tactical, squad-based, realistic game that has its own laws and its own rules and its own lore setting and feels real, and that’s something I’ve always kind of yearned for in games.

“We’re not going into the Team Fortress and Overwatch area; it’s going to be crowded, and there is going to be a winner or two out of that blood bath.”We can see that the market is going very fantasy MOBA direction with games like Overwatch; we are not positioning ourselves to fight on that front. We’re not going into the Team Fortress and Overwatch area; it’s going to be crowded, and there is going to be a winner or two out of that blood bath. We’re going to be in a different area while that’s happening, so for example you can see that Warframe has been very successful in its own niche as a third-person shooter with more of a co-op PvE element but with a realistic “sci-fi cool” genre. We had a lot of people playing DUST 514 in the past, and retaining a bigger chunk of them would have made us more successful.

Well the compare it to warframe soooo I'm guess it means thematic more than realistic.

Destructible cover would probably be sufficient?

I didn't watch all the footage from the OP but it would be nice if the maps had alternative routes that could be opened/closed as seen in BRINK, Dirty Bomb and I'm sure many other games too.

Might be enough, yeah. I'm just looking for the kinds of polish that people expect from FPS games in $current_year.

Let's be real here for a moment. Dust sucked, some of you here might have liked it but it was still a C-tier game. Valkyrie, despite being the number one most talked about VR game and very simple in concept, still came out to middling reviews. CCP aren't good at making stuff that isn't EVE; they're going to fuck this up too.

Space-ninja-wizards used as an example of realistic sci-fi. Amazing.
