I missed yesterday and haven't looked into the planning details, but it seems that each winning and losing pair in a group from yesterday got to fight the other winner/loser today, except PL and Hydra.

Is this an almost pefect fluke, something official to in some way benefit the previous finalists only, or an unofficial deviation from the pattern to ensure this matchup is on the finals weekend rather than this first broadcast week?

Everybody is fighting everybody in the groups, there will be more group matches on next Saturday.

They were pre-decided so it's just chance. The match order has been up on the website since earlier this week.

Am slightly :tinfoil: about Hydra and PL ending up in the same group with us potentially getting another Hydra/PL final. Haven't really looked too much in depth at the other groups but it doesn't quite seem as random as one would have thought.

I get that in groups of 4 you each get to fight the other 3, but it just seems a bit odd that they are the only two teams that get a week to consider what everyone else has fielded before their match against an 'equal' opponent by this year's performances (which I think were rather predictable and go with their results from last year), even though now it doesn't matter how either do AFAIK.

Care to offer any justification for this?

Fucking tinfoil is why. Not to mention that you're objectively wrong - BANE and Black Legion haven't had their match, nor have Voltron and R0NIN (less applicable since R0NIN did lose one, but they're second in the group).

Now that's a fair point, my bad.
