Because that last death you had just has to be shared.

Mine (the first since playing seriously this week) is as follows:

Decently fit viper shooting a side winder in a RES (I had been bounty hunting for a few days and besides fed bounty's I had 250k in empire bounty's and 50k in Alliance) for some reason at the last second the viper rolls into a head on crash path at about 200ms full shields so I don't worry to much, right up until 'You are dead' WTF :(

I have only died twice in the game so far, and both were in beta.. First time I turbo boosted by accident while entering a station which ended in the predictable death at the far end and the second time I got ripped a new one after being interdicted by an NPC. I mean I think he only hit me twice.. Sidewinder shields dont hold up to much man.

I've yet to be shot down, but I have crashed into shit at least a half dozen times. If you see a resource extraction site that is in the planet's shadow, just say no.

How much damage your shields can take depends on how many pips you have in systems. So if you had no pips because you were full, then your shields won't take much. Someone took down a Viper in an adder by ramming it head-on when it had all its pips in weapons.

I swear, when NPCs are going to go boom...they try to ram you. Ive had a T9 (died), Cobra (died), clipper x2 (1 died other time I survived with 6% hull)...

The more faceplam worthy would be me, in my cobra, undocking. I didn't realise i hit the comms button along with landing gear on my mouse...can't slow down, can't roll and I've already hit tab to boost. Could not yaw fast enough into the letter slot...splat on the wall.

Station last night killed me for no reason as i was touching down on the pad, just opened up on me :p

Had about Six near misses in the last day or so with a group that's farming my system, Just managed to get away every time.

On one occasion, the station gave me docking permission, but then claimed I was trespassing as I entered the slit. By the time I made it back out, it was already firing, but I just barely managed to escape with a bit of hull left ony my Cobra. All the multicannon fire coming past my cockpit looked like the night sky over Baghdad on the opening day of Desert Storm.

Having died three times, it's just enough for a top three deaths - or as I like to call it, the Lazy, the Stupid and the Retarded.

The Lazy
Last and most expensive death. Lakon Type-6 got obliterated by a station when the Standard Docking Puter managed to get stuck in the docking bay opening. Hoorah; 80 tons of rares and 100k in insurance.

The Stupid
My first death. slammed the engine boost button when manuvering out of the station. Hit the edge of the opening, cracked open the canopy glass (first time I realized that it was possible) and smashed my ship. Ugh.

The Retarded
At the end of a long trip (500k Ls or something). In the previous system, there was a scoopable star, but I figured "nah, I have enough to get there and fuel is cheap (Adder)". Famous last words. I had enough fuel to get into the system, but the star wasn't scoopable (or maybe I forgot to scoop, I don't really recall). With 13k Ls left to station, I ran out of fuel. FML!

My only death so far was in a sidewinder and I flew straight into the dock wall, I wasn't even near the letter box haha

Luckily it was combat fit so I didn't lose any cargo that would have been horrific!

fucked up so much last night. twice on the anaconda bounty missions, one conda took my shields and with near fullhull took out my thrusters. Next death was trying to dock with fat loots, silver, plat and some slaves i picked up from a pirate station to sell for profits or to complete missions (theres always a ncie slave mission)... scan detected.... goes silent, tries to dock too fast. no shields shit aim.... well...

and then another conda, break his shields, mine are weak but ive just used my shield cell, tanking lazors then... plasma accell. and im down. what a failure night. back to rare trading. everything else is too hazardous!

I have died seven times. Every single time it's because I was being a hotshot and boosted into a ship/asteroid/station. 250k in insurance costs so far according to my records.

I thought I could fit through the letter box, lesson learnt.

Got a kill mission for 160k credits. Found the dude (Elite Anaconda), shot him dead in me ASP (solo, cuz Wanted, cuz gimballed guns are shit and I shot a moron getting in the way in a previous UnSig). He dropped Gold, Palladium and stuff, which was promptly scooped up. Reached station, got 15km range to position myself, then boost, FA off, silent mode, eject heatsink. As soon as I reach the slit, FA on and maneuvered the ship inside only to run into a Type 7 undocking. Obviously hit him, died, lost cargo, 500k rebuy for my ASP, bounty vouchers lost, rage mode on. At least the 160k mission payout was still honoured.

is the ASP that bad at smuggling and avoiding being scanned? I try only to go silent as last resort if a scan has already started. But then i am in a cobra.

So. Number 4 huh. Boosted twice to get closer to an Outpost so the Puter could dock faster, slowed down too late, and slammed into the Outpost at almost full speed. Boom. 200k in rebuy + 600k in cargo. Oh well, just the profits of my last 8 jumps... :(

In my experience once a scan has started it's exponentially harder to do anything about it. This was a maneuver I've executed a lot of times before, the only thing that was off was a huge pile of shit Type 7 blocking the whole entrance that I've seen waaay too late. No shields = p00f.

almost bit the dust... just hit boost trying to close 3km from station enterance, realised my error, tried to take evasive meassures, desperately put 4pips in shields and hoped for best, lucky the pippage left me with 1 dim ring of shields left at about 150m/s speed impact... that woulda been a shame to die now.

Rage death: Found a good RES instance last night with infinite anacondas. Pop two of em with the police playing distraction. Got a lil banged up but decided to go for a third with a juicy 170k bounty. Almost immediately after I engaged him I noticed that all the police had fucked off to attack a different one. I probably shouldve fucked off my self at this point, being at like 70% hull from the last two, but i press on. This one had some pretty vicious guns, but was being flown like trash. I'm trying to stay on his ass end out of his turrets view, but taking even a few stray hits from this guy sends me into hull. I get him down to about 50% hull, i'm sitting at about 30. He starts dumping cargo, and I assume he's about to fsd outta here. Maneuver in right on his ass and open up.

Then Boom, ow what? Boom again ohhhh fuck 10% hull

He's dropping mines, not cargo. As I peel off he swipes me with a beam turret and i go down hard. First time ive seen an anaconda drop mines.

Hilarious death: also at a RES. Killing some cobras and nicked a cop. Decide to bug out but am being an asshat, flying through the belt, dodging in and around the rocks. See a big rock ahead of me, decide im gonna fly just under neath it, then pull up and fly vertical out the belt.

I shoot underneath and as I pull up in a fleeting microsecond i realize my mistake as the ship lights bring a grey pock marked surface into view and my ship explodes.

I was looking at the space potato from the narrow aspect, welp

Near death: Just had some chap called Moyase trying to ram with for a good five minutes in his Python, kept boosting out of the way.
Asked him to be careful as he's nearly hit me 20 times and i get "achtung" then i get scanner spammed by him for a bit.

Slightly odd encounter.

Oh also found out that i didn't have my kill scanner setup the whole time :/

just derped my type 7 with 216 consumer tech in hold. exiting dock didnt see a type 9 had got itself stuck so that its top was facing inwards like a wall, and it was so dark and just outside the lit part of the docking port i couldnt make it out.

so thats 3mil pooed away.
worst of all its caused me to sell my ASP i was fitting up to do 3 kill missions for 200k each i accepted in the same areas and failed them + 3 data courier missions failed which were all to the same station.
shite. looks like exploration is posponed now. good news is the trade route i run with gold and consumer tech/proginitor cells has had the palladium come back in season and the price has dropped again so i can make 55 per unit more profit with that now...

I don't think their network code is that crash hot.. I had 1 guy in system with me. One of us was on a bad connection (my connection may have been considered back because lol australian ping times, but its consistent and no other game has much of an effect) and even FTL in a straight line was chopping back and forth..

Well I just had a death that led me to log off in a less than pleased state.

I was bounty hunting in the extraction zone. Nothing strange about that.
A Fed ship flew in front of me, got raked by lasers, and decided that I was now the most wanted criminal in the Universe. Nothing strange about that.
I fly away to go dock and pay off my 300 credit fine. Again, nothing odd about that.

And then my game crashes. I log back in as quick as I could, afraid that the NPCs would be killing my wanted ship if I crashed before I entered warp or however crashing is handled in ED. I'm in no immediate danger so I continue my flight to the station.

I request docking permission, get it, and as soon as I'm inside the station - every gun in the station opens up on me and blows me up.

Not at all happy about that... which I guess makes it a hilarious death.

When you're wanted you should fly to an outpost instead of a station to pay off your fine, they don't shoot you.

I get halfway there, it takes ages because lol sidewinder. Scanning as I go so I have some credits to cash in then hit literally 5 unexplored brown dwarf stars in a row, no way I could have known, out of fuel, self destruct. FML.

use the galaxy map, turn on realistic. it tells you what Class of star is at a system if you click on info rather than navigation. also the colour of the star gives an indication. A-M you are golden, beyond M stars (Ts and Ys etc) you are not. See the various exploration charts about the star types and what is and isnt scoopable. but as you can always tell what type of star is at any system using the jump map you should never run out of fuel.
