Minecraft in 2D with hints of Metroid-style exploration, Zelda-style items, and I'm told Final Fantasy-style magic. Also you look like megaman when you jump.

It's also an absolute fuckload more polished and complex ("complex") than minecraft, and the building is far less important than the exploring.

I've started building a glowing mushroom farm around 130 feet below ground on the Hellevator will need some more mud though so I think an expedition to the underground jungle is in need!

There are a few things to do, one being PVP but that requires a server that you don't mind blowing the crap outta! Capture the Flag with Angel Statues is fun, the only problem being you don't drop it if you die!

Also helping out those who don't have end-game gear / havent defeated a boss yet is fun, and there's always how many bosses you can fight w/o using potions, it's true that there isn't really much end-game content at the moment, but I don't doubt that there will be soon enough!

Apparently you can chose it when you make your character. "Hardcore" means you'll lose all your items and start again with the basic stuff (pick, axe, sword). You'll need to retrieve your items and if you can't.... well start over. (Kind of like minecraft except without the timer)

More importantly : your mana and health gets reset to 0 and 100. And that kind of sucks

Yeah, it's basically the roguelike permadeath setting, set at the character level during creation. It'll leave a little headstone where you die, anything you were carrying is lost. House and inventory there still stays, but you have to make a new character.

Gamed a little yesterday without a clue, then some more with a little more clue today. Thanks a lot to Killy for protecting my bum. Managed to find a lot of gold (or, in my mind it's a lot of gold. Got my golden pickaxe and all) and assorted ores. Whoever was living down below (and I'm guessing they're now the resident zombies) left a fuckton of chests and assorted fuckery. Been pillaging, pillaging good. \o/

Dumped a ton of shadow scales/demonnite ore I don't need since I just got all the kit together into a random chest enjoy and fuck me there's a lot of corruption on this server think I've found 5 or 6 unique corruption zones one of which doesnt appear to have any shadow orbs for some weird reason.

Dig a pit two blocks deep and two wide in front of door (outside) and they will just jump up and down but not open the door. Actually I havent had a BM in 1.0.5 so not 100% if this still works.

I died whilst playing with dynamite(fuck you xenosis) and lost all my shit and dropping from my sky fortress ended up killing me twice. Then I got bored and made an infini-water tank just above the hole to the underworld. Unfortunately water seems a little bugged and either stops flowing or simply dissappears upon either hitting fireblossom or lava(correct me if I'm wrong but it should just turn into obsidian regardless of whether it's water flowing into lava or lava flowing into water).

And iirc, one of the latest patches prevents you from flooding hell by evaporating water that goes into the underworld.

If you build a water(or lava tank) at the appropriate size it will never drain, ever. You can flood an entire world this way.

Well I just bought this and have been bumming around on SP but tis getting a bit boring by my lonesome, so I tried connecting but it was taking forever to connect so I gave up after around 5mins. It is the first time I've tried doing multiplayer so is there some secret button I have missed?

Yea, picked it up on Sunday... and somehow spent 10 hours on it. Added another 4 hours tonight. My head hurts now.

It is very cool though, much like a side scrolling adventure based Minecraft.
I also setup a local server so my bro and I can play at the same time, way more fun than SP, and without the greifing of random internet people.

My day yesterday... work til 5, go rock climbing til about 7, get home, join brand new large map, spend 6 hours digging a shaft straight to hell (wasa so unlucky with the route going through stone or water the whole time), organising mushroom farms, obsidian generator + a building i've called 'The Palace Of Phallus' - yes the top of the tower is a giant bell end filled with lava! :D

Yeah it cost me three fiddy =( altho ive managed to get what i was aiming for, i blocked off all the external doors, then went caving, then died, respawned, and they are now all in their rooms \0/

Reactive traps are pretty much non-existent, the closest you can get is a block that spawns hundreds of flying tentacle things, I was in the process of collecting enough to turn the spawn point into a slaughterhouse...

Were you the one who decided to completely fill in the room with my bed in ebonstone? Would've made more sense to just surround the entire thing in ebonstone then I wouldn't have been able to escape unless I had a proper pick.
